This 12 VDC Relay is especially developed for Automotive use as servo change over switch.
Low current (Typically 140 to 150 milliAmperes) through the Relay Coil electromechanically switches ON a High current Load of Starter Solenoid.
Over hundred of these Relays have been reliably used since 1987 in following applications:
The OEM Key Switch has contacts that can not handle the high current that is required for activation of the Starter Solenoid, which is about 20 Amperes.
After some time this high current pits and burns the contacts inside the Key Switch, which in turn sometimes results in intermittent Starter operation and eventually NO Start condition.
If your vehicle already has this issue, then it is highly recommended that when the Key Switch is being replaced that this Upgrade modification is performed.
If your Key Switch did not fail just yet, perform this modification as soon as possible to avoid future much more expensive Key Switch replacement.
